Telenet -BBC Digital Voice Award

 

The BBC Digital Voice Awards 2012 are organised by Telenet N.V. in partnership with the BBC.  The BBC Digital Voice Awards are aimed at young people who strive to achieve excellence in English and make active use of the English language. This competition gives students the opportunity to express their thoughts and opinions for the future not only in person, but now, also digitally.
Within the themes for the Awards 2012, participants may select one of the topics listed below in Point 2. The chosen topic and title cannot be changed during the competition.

RULES BBC Digital Voice Awards 2012

1. Main Terms

To be entitled to enter the competition entrants must be a full-time student in Belgium aged 16-20.

Each entrant should choose one of the topics:  

  • How does peer pressure affect young people?
  • Is social networking anti-social?
  • Is binge drinking amongst teenagers getting out of control?
  • Is news created by the media?
  • Do computer games cause bad behaviour in children?
  • Are the Olympics about medals or money?
  • Connecting for a sustainable future. Networking for Sustainability.

In respect of their chosen topic, each entrant should:
•   write an essay of between 150-200 words, and
•   present a short piece (1-2 minutes in length) to webcam (participant must be visible), supported with audio, photo slideshow and/or or video clips. (video content which can contain anything non-copyrighted)

Entrants should enter via their schools in the same way as the Telenet – BBC Public Speaking Awards (see registration section).  Upon registration, entrants will receive an automatic email with login details to a protected area of the website where they can prepare and upload their entry.
Webcam footage should be uploaded to YouTube, marked as private, and the link should be embedded on the entry page.

The closing date and time to enter the presentations (video, text, a.s.o.) is Friday, 7th April 2012 - 18.00h. Entries received after that date will not be considered.

The entries will be judged on the following criteria: 

  • How well thought out is the content?
  • How well was the theme of the topic communicated?
  • Is the content and delivery engaging?
  • How well would the video segment stand up to repeated listening or viewing?
  • How creative is the entry?

Video and audio production values will not be a factor in the judging criteria.

The winner will be notified by midnight, Saturday, 15th April 2012 by email.

2. Terms & Conditions

  1. The BBC Code of Conduct for competitions can be found at www.bbc.co.uk/competitioncode and all BBC Worldwide (“BBCW”) competitions must comply with the Code.
  2. The competition is not open to BBCW employees and anyone connected with the competition.
  3. By entering the competition, the participants agree:
    • to be bound by these terms and conditions;
    • that their full name, county/city of residence, and name of the school they attend may be released if they win the competition;
    • that should they win the competition, their name and likeness may be used by BBCW for pre-arranged promotional purposes.
    • To attend the prize giving ceremony on Saturday, April 21st, 2012 at Telenet’s HQ – Liersesteenweg 4 – 2800 Mechelen
  4. Entrants must supply to BBCW their full name, postal address, email address and daytime telephone number. BBCW will only ever use entrant’s personal details as set out above and/or for the purposes of administering this competition, and will not publish them or provide them to anyone without permission. The BBC Privacy Policy is available at www.bbc.co.uk/privacy/.
  5. All entries, including all materials used in the entries, must be the original work of the entrant and must not contravene the rights of third parties. By entering the competition, the entrant grants to BBCW a perpetual and irrevocable licence to use the work for all purposes connected with the competition, including but not limited to post-competition publicity.
  6. Only one entry will be permitted per person.
  7. There is no cash alternative and the prize will not be transferable.
  8. The decision of the judge shall be final.
  9. BBCW reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions or to cancel, alter or amend the competition or the prize at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, or if circumstances arise outside of its control.
  10. If the winner is unable to be contacted after the closing date of the competition, BBCW reserves the right to offer the prize to a runner up, or to re-offer the prize in any future BBCW competition.
  11. BBCW excludes liability to the full extent permitted by law for any loss, damage or injury occurring to the participant arising from his or her entry into the competition or occurring to the winner arising from his or her acceptance of a prize.

3.  Registration
Participating schools can register up to six applicants by completing the form online at www.bbcawards.be or at www.bbcawards.be/register and use your personal code.
Register your school before December 23rd, 2011.
Register each individual candidate and to complete each pupil’s entry (topic, title of the speech) NO LATER THAN January 20th, 2012.

The closing date and time to enter the presentations (video, text, a.s.o.) is Friday, 7th April 2012 - 18.00h. Entries received after that date will not be considered.

A registration fee of € 10,00 per participating student is required.  After registration the school will receive an invoice. This invoice has to be paid within 8 days. Registration is final after receipt of the payment with reference:
