Preliminary rounds

TELENET - BBC Public Speaking Awards 2012:

Preliminary rounds will be held on Saturday March 3rd & Saturday March 10th, 2012. Sessions will start at 9:00 and at 13:30

There are two preliminary rounds. In each preliminary round, there will be a maximum of 88 participants allowed, divided over several heats. From each preliminary round, participants will go to the quarter finals. A total of maximum 72 participants will go to the quarter final.
* These dates are subject to the number of registrations to the event. Therefore also number of participants admitted to the quarter final can be different.

The organizer will decide the date, location, time & heat in which you will participate at random. Candidates cannot change this order. Participants must be present at 8:30 or 13:00                          

If the participant is not present he/she will be excluded.

The exact date and location, in which the speaker competes, will be confirmed to each participant and teacher individually by email.

Date and location :

• March 3rd, 2012 : tbd. Participants are allowed to be accompanied by a max of 6 supporters
• March 10th, 2012 : tbd. Participants are allowed to be accompanied by a max of 6 supporters

Participants must be present during the complete duration of the event (morning or afternoon session).

The Coordinator will announce the participants that will proceed into the next round.After prize-giving ceremony, these competitors may ask jury members for suggestions for improvement of their speech. 

A welcoming coffee and lunch is offered to all participants, teachers and audience.

The quarter final will take place on Saturday March 17th, 2012. Sessions will start at 9:00.  In the quarter final, there will be a maximum of 72 participants*, divided over several heats. From this quarter final, 24 participants will go to the semi-final.
*The number of participants admitted to the quarter final is subject to the number of registrations to the event.

Your ID number will be chosen at random by the organiser. Candidates cannot change this order. Participants must be present at 8:30. If the participant is not present he/she will be excluded.

Participation will be confirmed to each participant and teacher individually by email.

Date and location :
March 17th, 2012 : Telenet N.V. - Liersesteenweg 4 - 2800 Mechelen

Participants must be present during the complete duration of the event (End around 18:00). Participants are allowed to be accompanied by a max of 10 supporters.

The Coordinator of the event will announce the participants that will proceed into the next round. After prize-giving ceremony, these 24 competitors may ask jury members for suggestions for improvement of their speech. 

A welcoming coffee and lunch is offered to all participants, teachers and audience.

The semi final will take place on Saturday March 24th, 2012– Session will start at 9:00
There will be a maximum of 24 participants.  From this round, 10 participants will go to the National Final.

Your ID number will be chosen at random by the organiser. Candidates cannot change this order. Participants must be present at 8:30. If the participant is not present he/she will be excluded.

Participation will be confirmed to each participant and teacher individually by email.

March, 24th, 2012 : tbd. Participants are allowed to be accompanied by a max of 15 supporters.

Since this is a public speaking competition, supporters are also requested to be present for the complete duration of the competition.

The Coordinator of the event will announce the 10 winners that will proceed into the National Final at the end of the day. After prize-giving ceremony, these 10 competitors may ask jury members for suggestions for improvement of their speech. 

A welcoming coffee and lunch is offered to all participants, teachers and audience.

Coaching Sessions Finalist 2011 : Wednesday March 28th and Wednesday April 18th, 2012. Participation at these two sessions is obligatory for the students and optional for the teachers. This session will also include a workshop debating hausted by Paul Holleley.

National Final April 21st, 2012.
There will be 10 participants to the National Final.

Impromptu speeches will start at 9:30

Speech will start at 23:30

Your ID number will be chosen at random by the organiser
Each participant and teacher will be invited by letter individually

Participants are allowed to be accompanied by a max of 15 supporters.

Entry to the National Final by invitation only !

A light lunch and reception is offered to all present.
